Kaalam: (Julien Breton) French Calligrapher does lightpainting!

Live performance to music
I just wanted to write a quick post about yesterday’s encounter. Julien is a very talented guy who I met at an event I was covering. And as we’re both french, you can imagine we had a chat and talked about each other’s passion. And I have to say, I never expected this.
What HE does is really, like REALLY REALLY impressive and inspiring. Go and check him out here: http://kaalam.free.fr/ – Amazing! And since we said we might do a little project together in London, stay tuned, you never know.
I will let you know more in time anyway.
Bye for now!
Event: Strictly Come Dancing stars Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova give a dance class
A last minute call and I am off to cover a dance class by Strictly Come Dancing stars Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova. This is how one of our client, the Glaziers Hall, decided to celebrate Christmas and treat their employees. How fun is that?
So I thought I’d throw a couple of pics from the session:

4th Plinth: Medium Format Result
As some of you know already, I did take part in the 4th Plinth Project in London. And as I posted about it, I wanted to now share some of the result from the day. I used a Bronica medium format (which uses 120 Film Rolls) and took a series of 12 photos.
Here it is, straight out from the scan, the best 5: (more…)
EVENT: The RSA’s Royal Designer for Industry Awards
So yesterday I covered the last event from the RSA. A very interesting and educating evening, I have to admit. All the designers made RDI are amazing people, who have contributed to the design world in such a way you would never guess. Some have designed elements of the James Bond movies, like one of the supercars. Some others created pieces of furniture and other concepts that made it around the world.
So as each new RDI was introduced, his/her work were shown, explained and commented on the big screen before receiving their awards. Here are a couple of shots of the short evening:
News: Come and join me on the 4th Plinth!
Hi All,
this is a little unusual but I got a slot on the 4th Plinth in Trafalguar Square. It’s this coming Friday (9th Oct. 2009) between 7pm and 8pm. For more info, read on there: http://www.oneandother.co.uk – Thanks to my Girlfriend Ilana, it was her initiative (as always, she has the best ideas!)
Now, since i’ve been really lucky, it falls at the exact time of the weekly live show on Sky arts and will be streamed live (like any other “performances”) on the One And Another website as well as on sky arts. So there is a chance I’ll be interviewed as well! Me! Interviewed!? lol
Let’s really hope for no rain. Imagine the laugh! All soaking wet, for an hour up there on the plinth!
I will be doing a few things up there.
- I’ll be taking photos, of course, of you people and the surrounding! At the end of the day I am a photographer! And I will be using a very old medium format that used to be used by press photographers in the late 1940’s. It’s a Graflex Speed Graphic Press camera, and looks every little bit old like… really old! It will be my first use since a good friend of ilana’s mum gave it to me. And it produces massive slides almost the size of an A5!
- We’ll be doing a sing along on the song “Smile“, also known as the Charlie Chaplin song… Thx to ilana, cause i wouldn’t know how to organize that myself! So come along and learn the words, we’ll be singing our heart out! and follow her on twitter for the latest info about her upcoming events!
- I’ll be promoting a project put together by Jeremy Cowart called Help-portrait. The idea being to find people/charities that could do with free quality portrait and give them the photos for free. It will take place on the 12th December 2009 and this will be my attempt to get as many people involved as possible! We need photographers who are willing to give their time for free. We need Locations! Photographic Studios, empty rooms or any cool place we could use on the day. Of course, all that for free! And we’ll need people to photograph: charity, youth movement, people in need… Anyone in need! I even got a T-shirt made for that which i’ll be wearing on the day!

Here is a little video to explain all about the Help-Portrait project:

Secret Garden Party Festival
Ok, So it’s been a while since I posted something and so this post is gonna elp me catch up a little bit. Ilana is still working hard on her album, and I have been there to help but it’s been keeping her fairly busy! And this week-end we went to The Secret Garden Party festival to chill out a little and listen to some good music in a fantasy world! And let me tell you, it was amazing :)
Great Friends, like Kassia:

Event: Personal Space is Back!
It says it all! some familiar faces and some new faces. But only Raw Talent!

Event: Ali Miller Exhibition in TOPSHOP
Ali Miller Strikes again with her exhibition ‘Brave Soldier and Black Butterfly’which is on for another few days.
She says “[This] is a fine art exhibition I’m putting on to commemorate and celebrate the life of my father, a former soldier and artist, who died of cancer in April 2008, just five months after his diagnosis.”
So I went there, downstairs TopShop (was it TopShop? Not sure anymore… Oh well) and her installation looked really great. I stayed there for about an hour and enjoyed watching people’s reaction and taking some lovely pictures.

Lovely isn’t it! I would have added some close up, but you’d rather head to Ali’s website instead. And stay tuned as more portrait sessions are coming to the blog!
Ali Miller at the Affordable Art Fair!
Ali Miller presented a portfolio of some of her most recent work as well as pieces shown in past exhibitions. She naturally asked me to cover it for her, and I am glad to say that it was a big success! She raised money for charity.

Here is some background info about that exhibition:
‘Brave Soldier and Black Butterfly‘ is Ali Miller’s up and coming new solo exhibition to commemorate and celebrate the life of her father, a former soldier and artist, who died of cancer in April 2008, just five months after his diagnosis. The exhibition will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the North London Hospice.
She will be next at the Affordable Art Fair on 12-15 March 2009. You can check it out ant take a tour here. So book your tickets now!
And I’ll finish with a couple of her pieces:

hope to see you guys there!
